NDC, Mahama and Matters Arising...

Fact is, Mahama will win the NDC flagbearership race. All the statistics speak in his favour. He has more resources: financial, human, popularity, etc than all the other 10 contestants. Thus, Mahama and Akufo Addo will contest for the presidency in 2020.

Another fact is, Akufo Addo will win the 2020 elections. Yes, not all Ghanaians are happy with his style of governance. But the dislike for Akufo Addo and the NPP is not the kind that makes him a one-term president.

Therefore, NDC has to focus on election 2024. Given that no government, in this 4th Republic, has gone beyond 8years, the stakes will be higher for NDC in 2024. But if Mahama flag-bears for NDC in 2020, it means they have to bring a "new face" as flagbearer in 2024.

Again, fact is, no "new face" has won elections on his first attempt before, at least not under the 4th Republican Ghana. Thus, if NDC brings a "new face" in 2024, their tendency to lose the elections is very high.

Seemingly relievedly, NPP will also bring a "new face" in 2024 since Akufo Addo can't run the 3rd time. That will mean, Ghana will have the option of two "new faces" to choose from.

The NPP's "new face" predictably will either be Dr. Bawumia or Alan Kyeremanteng. Either of these two is more popular and marketable than all the NDC flagbearer contestants put together. Therefore, NPP stand higher chance of winning the 2024 elections too.

If the NPP's "new face" (either Bawumia or Kyeremanteng) wins election 2024, the historic 2-term principle may favour him. Making him win election 2028.

*Free Advice to NDC and Mahama:*
1. If NDC picks Mahama as flagbearer, they'll likely stay in opposition for 16years and possibly win election 2032.

2. Mahama will do a great disservice to NDC and Ghana if he contests for flagbearership.

3. Mahama has two personalities, "statesman" or "opposition leader". If he becomes the flagbearer and loses, he'll struggle with his "statesmanship" status.

4. NDC should sit Mahama down and talk to him. Mahama seriously needs a psychologist to talk to. His decision to contest will do himself and the entire NDC more harm than good.
