Computer Placement System to Universities Is a Good Policy But Must be Managed Well- Educationist

The Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, revealed last week Tuesday, 15th January, 2019 that there will be a centralised computer placement system for applications to tertiary institutions next year. He said this when a delegation of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOFF) paid him a visit.

This comes after a 9-member committee chaired by Professor Cliff Tagoe proposed for a Centralized University admissions and Placement Service (CAPS) to replace the current stressful and expensive system of applying to different Universities.

The Minister of State in Charge of Tertiary, Prof. Yankah said a national committee on centralized admissions for Universities to be chaired by Prof. Adow Obeng will be formally inaugurated on Thursday, January 17, 2019, to facilitate the process.

He added that exploratory visits have been made to UK and Nigeria by the Ministry of Education and Vice Chancellors and Registrars to understudy how the system works in the two countries.

Respected educationist and counsellor, Mr. Daniel Fenyi who spoke on the above subject on Angel FM last Tuesday morning said the Computer System will be the second best educational initiative after Free SHS if it is efficiently implemented.

Counsellor Daniel Fenyi wildly alledged that admissions to public tertiary institution are fast becoming a "connection or whom-you-know" thing especially Nursing and Teacher Training Colleges hence the Computer Placement System will be extremely beneficial to the general public.

Educationist Daniel Fenyi however cautioned that care must be taken so that private universities would not collapse under this system just as private SHSs have collapsed.
