WASSCE FAILURE TO INCREASE IN COMING YEARS- EDUCATIONIST

Speaking on the Accra-based Maranatha TV Newspaper Review last Monday morning, vociferous counselor and educationist, Mr. Daniel Fenyi indicated that there will be an increase in WASSCE failure in the coming years.

According to the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC), based on the provisional results released Friday, the performance of students in score range A1 - C6 in Mathematics recorded 38.33% while English Language recorded only 46.79%.

The renowned educationist, Mr. Daniel Fenyi ascribed the abysmal performance of students in the 2018 WASSCE to several factors ranging from students' own lack of motivation to learn and gross student indiscipline, parents' slack interest in their wards' academic life, politicisation of the educational structure and the general dehumanisation of the teaching profession.

Mr. Daniel Fenyi opined that Ghana's education has lost its focus due to the unnecessary political interferences. He encouraged the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service to issue a statement as to whether the focus of education is to produce quantity or quality.

The educationist, Mr. Daniel Fenyi emphasised the educational system of Ghana produces quantity and politicians are happy with huge numbers of students admitted into the various SHSs across the country each year without recourse to the quality of BECE grades considered before granting these students admission.

Mr. Daniel Fenyi also urged politicians to leave the educational sector solely in the hands experts and stop the undue interferences otherwise students will continue to perform badly.
